NORTHWICH VICS 1
CHELTENNAM 0
Nationwide Conference.
NORTHWICH Vics became the first team to do the double over champions Cheltenham thanks to Paul Tait's 50th minute winner.
Tait was quickest to react when Neil Illman's flicked on corner sat up in the box, powering home a header from close range.
His goal was the highlight of a scrappy match.
Illman was Vics' biggest threat in the first half, forcing a good save from Steve Book minutes before flashing a shot over the bar.
But the visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock before the break when Mark Freeman sent a free-kick crashing into Lance Key's crossbar after just three minutes.
