NORTHWICH VICS 6

WINSFORD UNITED 1

Mid Cheshire Senior Cup

NORTHWICH Vics made sure they had something to show for another encouraging season after wrestling the Mid Cheshire Cup from their neighbours in emphatic fashion on Thursday night, writes Nick Smith.

Nathan Peel chose this match, against the club he left four months ago, to rediscover his scoring touch, netting a fine hat-trick.

However, it was livewires Stuart Terry and Neil Illman who ran the show and inspired Vics to recover from an early setback, when Sammy Harris headed in an Andy Bridge cross after four minutes. Peel nodded an equaliser 14 minutes later and Illman, pouncing on a poor back-pass, steered Vics into a half-time lead.

On 56 minutes, Lance Key's fine save from a Joey Roberts volley kept his side in front, and seconds later the destiny of the cup was sealed.

Peel whipped a Terry cross into the top corner from 12 yards before a teasing run by Mark Devlin ended with a curler into the far corner.

The dismissal of Harris for a second bookable offence gave Vics an easy last 10 minutes, during which Peel side-footed in his third and sub Ian Cooke rounded 'keeper John Bagnall before slotting in the sixth.
