County Clr Nora Stopford, who believes Marbury Lane should remain open, was also encouraged by the news that the county council was expected to delay its decision.
She said: "The fact the decision is going to be deferred shows the county council are considering the issue very carefully.
"I feel quite hopeful. Sitting around a table and getting everybody involved almost always produces better results than any committee meeting."
Further talks will now take place between county and borough councillors and Tatton MP Martin Bell, to explore the proposal. The final decision over Marbury Lane will be taken by the full council, on May 20.
