Railtrack don't plan to revamp the station - leased to North Western Trains - until April 2000.
In the meantime the firm, which owns the station and is responsible for the line, has promised to make short-term improvements to tidy it up.
"We are currently asking the operating company how they feel the station can be improved immediately," a spokesman told the Knutsford Guardian this week.
"We will do things like removing any grafitti and do a general clean-up."
At a recent site visit with a Railtrack employee town Clr Jennifer Holbrook was told that the broken roof windows and lamp posts would soon be repaired.
