The director of Monckton Properties wants to flatten garages behind Tatton Street and Minshull Street and build the offices instead.

Planners refused similar plans for Red Cow Yard twice last year.

Borough councillors then rejected the proposals because of problems with car parking and over-development of the yard.

But yesterday (Tuesday) planning chairman Clr Tony Mazzeo said he was happy with the scheme after a site visit with Mr Brook's agents Meller Braggins.

"It is smaller and there is now nothing wrong with it," he said.

"The buildings to be demolished aren't very elegant and it will be an improvement."

Clr Mazzeo also said the firm had promised to repair any damage to the cobbled yard after building work was finished.

Meller Braggins spokesman John Wright assured planners in a letter that the offices would improve the conservation area with no loss of yard space.

"The design of the new buildings closely follows the houses almost opposite, at Leaks Terrace, and will considerably enhance the area," he said.

Parking for six cars which will use the alleyway leading to the back of the Heritage Centre, will be provided.
