Runcorn 2

Accrington Stanley 2

RUNCORN played out another home draw at the weekend when relegated Accrington Stanley twice came from behind to salvage a point.

The final home game ended as the first one back in August had, with points dropped.

A busy week for the club saw them draw at Blyth and Leigh, while taking full points at home against Spennymoor.

The Accrington result leaves them with 51 points from 40 games.

Manager Mark Carter had come off the substitutes' bench to head Runcorn into a 2-1 lead with only 14 minutes to go, meeting a Gary Randles cross.

But Accrington equalised for a second time through another substitute Gareth Seddon, who latched on to a ball in the box, to level with only five minutes left.

Carter might have given his team a chance to finish off the opposition in the last minute, but his appeal for a penalty after being baulked by the away keeper was turned down.

Runcorn had taken the lead through a Liam Watson penalty in the 28th minute, the striker converting after he himself had been tripped.

But Accrington, who could have avoided the drop had they won this game, cancelled out that lead five minutes into the second half through their former Runcorn forward Paul Heavey, who steered a Ged Walsh cross past Mark Morris from close range.
