THE Runcorn Jets rookie baseball team played the Halton Polecats at their home ground on Saturday morning, April 24, for the first game of the season.

A game in which both teams gave an excellent display of how youth baseball should be played, with the victory going to the Jets in a thrilling game.

Team spirit of both teams was excellent and the coaches of the Jets would like to praise both teams.

At the end of the first innings solid teamwork and exceptional outs by Michael Crisp on second base and Craig Jones on first, the jets dominated the second innings, holding the Polecats to one run.

In the bottom of the third innings the Jets were leading 14-6 and only needed three outs to ensure victory.

Good fieldwork came from new player Arron Yasities in the first game catching his first player out, as the Jets held back the Polecats allowing only three batters in ending the game with a winning score of 9-14.

The Jets would like to take this opportunity to thank the Polecats for their hospitality and look forward to playing them on 15 May at the Jets' home ground at Halton Sports.

Coaching staff of both clubs have been involved with baseball since it started in Runcorn, it shows that Runcorn can no longer be classed as a two sport town (football and rugby).
