Runcorn Greenall Darts League

JOLLY BREWER, the team who for so long had been knocking on the door, finally made the breakthrough when they lifted the League's Carlsberg Tetley Cup in dramatic fashion at the RAOB Club last Friday night.

The competition consisted of five pairs per team, 501 up double start and finish and in the Final Jolly Brewer faced Section One champions Dockside B.

It was the latter who made the early pace with wins from N Ward and J Burke and then B Davies and S Bell.

Although this meant the odds were stacked against them the Jolly Brewer refused to be beaten and wins from B McNamara and H McGeever and then C Whalley and C McFarland levelled the scores at two games all.

In a tense and dramatic final game it was left to Jolly Brewer's anchor pairing of T Grimley and K Stevenson to see their team to victory.

This Final was followed by the Section Two stage Final of the committee Section Challenge Cup between Pavilions and Pirates.

Littlemore put Pavilions into an early lead but Pirates answered this with wins from S Urmson and F Harrison Senior, to put them into a 2/1 lead.

This was followed by three games of pairs and these all went to Pirates to put them into a winning 5/1 lead.

Those winning for Pirates were J Reed and G Danks, S Urmson and D Claydon and then M Urmson and D Hatton.

The next two singles games also went to Pirates with wins from N Kneale and F Harrison Junior, with Pavilion P Crilly winning a consolation last game.

Trophies and prize monies were presented by League officials, John Hale and Steve Doyle and the after match entertainment was provided by Jolly Brewer's Kevin Stevenson.

Last Thursday night the War Memorial Club was the venue for two further Finals.

The evening commenced with the Final of the Chairman's Challenge Cup between Albion and Wanderers.

Wanderers won the opening game through G Kneale only to see Albion go into a 2/1 lead through wins from G Thornhill and J Kilkenny.

Wanderers then levelled the scores to two games all through T Shallcross, only to see Albion regain he lead through N Peterson.

Wanderers hit back once again through K Coles to square the match at three games all.

It was not to be for Wanderers however for wins from Albion's N Hough, E Hartigan and R Chiocchi gave their team a winning 6/3 scoreline.

This was followed by the Section Three stage of the Committee Section Challenge Cup between old rivals Outcasts and Fiddlers III.

This proved to be a real see-saw match with the lead changing hands several times.

S Jones put Outcasts into an early lead with C Williamson levelling the scores for Fiddlers III.

Outcasts then regained the lead through T Sefton only to see Fiddlers III go into a 3/2 lead with wins from the pairings of C Williamson and N Harris and then P Crowe and P Dunn.

The scores were then tied at three games all when Outcasts D Richardson and D Goodall won the last of the pairs games but Fiddlers III then regained the lead with a win from P Crowe.

Outcasts R Helbert then squared the match to four games all, with his team-mates D Richardson winning a tense deciding final leg.

Trophies and prize monies were presented by League official Dave Woodcock.
