MILL owner Derek Moorhouse is looking to shore up a river bank to stop his car park crumbling away.

Mr Moorhouse owns Dane Mill in Broadhurst Lane, Congleton, which backs onto the River Dane.

Several months ago he noticed the river had eaten away part of the car park cum servicing area at the mill, which is home to a number of firms.

As a result he is planning to support the embankment with stone held in place by a wire cage.

The structure would be three metres high and 10 metres long, and Mr Moorhouse is seeking planning approval for the scheme.

''Mr Moorhouse noticed the service area was being eaten into several months ago after a particularly high water level,'' said the agent who designed the scheme.

''Eventually the mill could be in danger, we are just trying to protect the property, and hope to be able to do the work as soon as possible.''
