NATIONAL Federation of Anglers coach Eddie Cardus showed he can practice what he preaches when he bagged up on roach at Warrington Anglers' Association's Astle Pool.

He had fish around 4ozs alternating between hemp and bronze pinkie. A few carp are also starting to feed - best 16lbs on boilie.

Tench action is hot at Rixton Claypits where members are bagging up on mainly boilies, also maggots and corn. Skimmers, roach and a few small carp are also being caught.

Grey Mist Mere has 'just gone crazy' according to our bailiff Ian Clutterbuck who reports almost 40 carp were caught by members over the past weekend.

Best fish was 'Henry' who weighed in at 21lbs 12ozs 0drms and one member fished a two-hour session for six fish. The tench were also feeding well with member Andy Woods netting fish to 5lbs on boilies.

Glyn Beautyman reports a leather carp of 22-0-0 taken from the Lymm area of the Bridgewater Canal. Boilies are not on the menu as he generally fishes floating crust but a deviation to swan mussel was the successful bait.

The canal is still quiet around the Preston Brook area but is really fishing well at Broadheath for bream and skimmers. A lot of rudd are showing and more tench have been reported, the latter are almost a rarity. Chub from brambles or bush feature pegs to caster or maggot.

The Trent and Mersey at Whatcroft is producing some quality roach to hempseed while nearer to home, at Barnton Wides, bread punch is accounting for fish to 8ozs and a few skimmers and bream. Small carp and bream from the reeds at Sutton Weaver.

John Summers reports ghost carp of 5-8-0, 6-0-0, and 6-4-0 taken on boilies from Kent Green on the Macclesfield Canal. These were eclipsed by a mirror carp of 19-8-0 from the same swim the next day.

The danger caused by the algae bloom at Cicily Mill Pool now seems to be over but the fishery will remain closed for approximately another week. Please do not visit while the fishery is closed as the lock has been temporarily changed. Many thanks to all those who volunteered with a special mention to Pete Wilding, Ian Taylor and 'young Ben' whose efforts went way beyond what anyone would expect.

The best of luck to our match squad who are competing in the Division Two Embassy National Championships tomorrow on the Aire and Calder plus Stainforth and Keadby Canals.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual tonight, Friday. I can be contacted with your queries and catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 713898.
