TETLEY Walker crashed to a First North Western Trains League Division Two opening day defeat on Saturday.

The home side started the new season like a house on fire, forcing Walker on to the back foot straight from the kick off.

Darwen bombarded Walker's goal but were held at bay by desperate defending led by man of the match goalkeeper Lee Medland and Ian Street, who twice cleared off the line in the opening 20 minutes.

The deadlock was broken in the 23rd minute when a Lee Slater shot was deflected into Walker's net by Lee Tantrum.

Seven minutes later Stephen Lynch was controversially adjudged to have sprung the Walker off side trap to fire home Darwen's second.

After half-time Walker started to get into the game and created several chances.

The closest they came to scoring was in the 69th minute when John Woods almost took advantage of a defensive mix up but saw his goal bound shot deflected off the keeper's leg and trickle wide.

Five minutes earlier Darwen had scored their third goal from a Jimmy Khan free kick.

Darwen rounded things off with two goals in the last 10 minutes.

Tetley: Medland, Tantrum, Simpson, Street, Maber, Jones, Gwyther, Hunt, Heath, Plant, Woods. Subs: Newbound, Lonsdale.

Due to Barrow's resignation, Tetley have no game this weekend.

They are next in action on Thursday when they visit Colne, kick-off 7.30pm.
