GREEN-FINGERED Lester Crisford is one of a series of Alsager gardeners due to receive awards this Saturday.

Mr Crisford, from Talke Road, won the best front garden section in the 1999 Alsager Gardens Competition.

The prize for best overall garden went to David Ball from Mawdsley Close, followed in second by Mr Chesworth from Mere Court.

Cranberry Infant won the best school garden, and the Alsager Arms Hotel was judged as boasting the best floral display for commercial and business premises.

Mr F Finlow from The Close won the best allotment category, with Mr M Grundy from Derwent Close runner-up.

Karen and Chris Hare from College Road were the best first time entrants not winning any other prize, and Mr M Singleton from Cresswellshaw Road came second to Mr Crisford.

The awards are to be presented by town council chairman Catherine Heritage at the Alsager Gardens Association annual flower and vegetable show this Saturday at Alsager Civic Centre.
