PRIMARY school pupils in Willaston have helped to give future generations a glimpse of life in 1999.

Pipeline company Transco moved one of its engineering units from Winsford to Crewe and decided to enlist local children to help with a special project.

They made a time capsule out of yellow polythene gas pipe and asked youngsters at Willaston Primary to help fill it.

Transco workers filled the pipe with a potted history of the new base in Stewart Street which was once home to Crewe Gas Works with a history dating back to 1863.

They then added copies of the original plans from the 19th century with pictures and details of everyone working there.

Pupils chipped in with a school uniform, solar-powered calculator, a list of all the school's teachers and pupils, photos and drawings.

Transco Network Operations Manager John Massey said: "Moving depot to the new site at Stewart Street gave us the ideal chance to leave a lasting reminder of our presence here.

"The school children were very enthusiastic about the project and came up with some very good ideas of their own."

Two Willaston pupils, Frances Raeburn and Lisa Cartlidge, both aged nine, helped to bury the capsule.
