A GROUP of children have been swapping the big smoke for a much quieter haven in Winsford during the school holidays.

The Children's Country Holiday Fund hosted 42 youngsters from London, giving them a taste of life in the wide open country.

A party was held in Whitegate for families to wave goodbye to their new family members.

The children enjoyed visits to Chester Zoo and farms in the Whitegate and Winsford area, but the experience of the country provided the real breath of fresh air.

Country rep Jean Iggo, of Clay Lane, who hosted two kids during the summer holidays, is still looking for more families to help give children a break next year.

She said: "This year we got four new families and next year we're looking for more and more helpers.

"The kids had a really good time. It was fantastic just to see their faces when they see the country and when they are aware they are in open fields."
