THOUSANDS turned up on Bank Holiday Monday to Northwich's 14th annual Festival of Sport.

The event, which was organised by Northwich Rugby Club, took place at Moss Farm and featured all sorts of fun and games.

The main attraction was the Greenalls' Strong Man event.

The winner was Manchester's Paul Heyes, who has won the competition twice before, though Northwich men Mark Priest and Tony Winstanley finished 5th and 6th.

The various seven-a-side soccer competitions were keenly fought with Junior Blues enjoying victory in the under 9s and 11s sections, Weaverham taking the under 10s title and Hartford beating off their rivals in the under 12s.

John Nancollis, chairman of Northwich Rugby Club, said: "Around 4,000 people came along to support the event and it was a great day.

"We think we have raised around £3,000 and this will be used to help with the running costs of the club."
