DANIEL Buxton fought back from a disappointing ninth place in qualifying to take second spot in the Fiesta Zetec Challenge race at Brands Hatch.
The Cuddington racer also set the fastest lap and pushed championship leader David Gibson into third place to keep his own title chances alive.
Buxton, 21, powered through the field and pushed winner Colin Stancombe all the way to the chequered flag in a thrilling race to finish only one second behind.
He's now 20 points off the lead with two rounds remaining including Oulton Park on September 12.
Ashton-under-Budworth's Andrew Howarth put in a solid performance to grab fifth position. The 24-year-old had put in a season's best performance in qualifying to start sixth and some solid driving saw him move up a place at the flag.
