West Bank 20

Ulverston 35

THE BANK started well and took the lead after only six minutes with a super try after a 75 yard move.

From a short ball off scrum-half Darren McKeown, Steven King broke through.

Prop John Wilson supported well but was caught 30 yards out.

A neat pass out of the tackle sent Steven King racing to the line.

Full-back Rob McKeever converted.

The Bank failed to capitalise and Ulverston playing a typically simple Cumbrain game started to get on top.

After 15 minutes the Bank defence were slow to cover a high ball and visiting stand-off John took advantage with a simple try.

The visitors extended their lead to 18-6 at half-time with tries from hooker Clough, winger Seger and three goals from full-back Atkins.

Further tries from John and Seger early in the second-half added to the Bank's troubles.

The Bank reduced the gap with a second try from Steven King who went over at the play-the-ball after second-row Ian Connor had gone close.

Rob McKeever added a superb conversion by the corner-flag.

The Bank started to come more into the game and after Ulverston's John dropped a goal on the last tackle, Darren McKeown, John Buckley and Steven King had good runs.

Debutant Mark Woodward almost scored before Mom Ian Connor broke through for a fine try.

Hooker Clough added an Atkins converted try before Bank winger Billy Isherwood completed the scoring with a 20 yard run to the corner.

The Bank showed flashes of their true skills but their application and defence were poor and they will need to improve for next week's difficult trip to Pilkingtons of St Helens.

The Ulverston side just missed out on promotion last year and with their six Barrow A teamers to the fore fully deserved their victory.
