Widnes Albion Bulls 26

West Sutton 6

OPENING their Division One programme with a good solid performance the Albion finally laid a bogey to rest against a team they have previously failed to beat.

Despite constant pressure it took 20 minutes for the Albion to score when Geoff Williams and Gary McKeown combined for winger Chris Fenlon to race over, followed shortly by Gary Richardson who capitalised on a West Sutton mistake to kick on and dive on the ball.

The visitors reduced the arrears on one of their rare insits into the Albion half with a try by Adams from close-range and conversion by Stubbs.

Only two points to the good at the interval the Bulls refused to panic, Tony Hill and Neil Burke making the hard yards for fellow second-rows Paul Davies and Mick Donnelly to send Tony Mahar and Andy Friar over respectively, Williams adding the conversion.

Full-back Paul Argent kept his cool to field some 'bombs' under pressure from West Sutton and a fine clearing run enabled Mahar to kick ahead and regather for a fine 50 yard effort, Williams adding the extras to add the icing on the cake for the Albion Bulls.

The Bulls are away at Oldham St Annes this Saturday when they will be hoping to keep up their winning ways.
