IN the Runcorn Greenall Darts League, the Town Championship winners trophy will change hands as hitherto holders Dockside B were eliminated from the competition when they went down 7/2 to Lion Doo Waps in the second round.

Albion protected their unbeaten record but not before they were involved in a nail-biting affair with Halfway A. Wins in 15 and 16 darts respectively from B Whitby and K Dand helped Halfway A to hold Albion to two games all but Albion then went into a 4/2 lead helped in no small way with an 11 dart game from N Hough (40, 121, 140, 100).

Halfway A then responded to tie the issue to four games all but it was then left to Albion's renowned anchorman N Dunbebin to steer his team to the semi-finals when he won the decider in 16 darts.

Section Three team Draymen showed great guts and determination when they fought back from 4/1 down to run out 5/4 winners against Section Two's Barge.Section Two champions Likely Lads made their way to the semi-finals when they beat Section Five champions Windmill 6/3.

In the same stage of the Executive Competition Wanderers' G Ridgway turned in a brilliant performance when he ran out in 10 darts (120, 121, 140, 40) to help his team to overcome Docksiders 6/3. Cherry Tree A's I Deakin produced a 15 dart game in his team's 9/0 victory over Union Tavern but Jolly Brewer, the favourites for this competition, had to win the last two games to win through 5/4 against Section Two's Crofters.

The local derby at the Halfway House resulted in Halfway Gents winning through 6/3 against Halfway Mixed.

In the semi-final of the Town Championship Albion's P Ward produced a 130 final to help his team to go into a 3/0 lead against Draymen, but a 15 dart game from D Foulkes helped to reduce Draymen's arrears to 3/2 before Albion eventually won through 6/3. Albion are joined by Lion Doo Waps who ran out 6/3 winners against Likely Lads.

Jolly Brewer made their way to the final of the Executive Competition when for the second night running their anchorman T Lacking won the decider, this time against Cherry Tree A Team. This match produced a maximum from the winners S Roberts. Jolly Brewer are joined by Wanderers who ran out 6/3 winners against Halfway Gents.

Thursday, September 2 at the War Memorial Club will consist of the KO Cup final between Albion and Dockside B and the Executive Competition final between Jolly Brewer and Wanderers. Next Thursday at the War Memorial Club is the Town Championship final between Albion and Lion Doo Waps, the Doubles Competition final between Mark Smith and Tom Humphries (Roundhouse B) and Steve Roberts and John Hillan (Jolly Brewer) and the final of the Individual Competition between Brian Davies (Dockside B) and Steve Roberts.

It is with deep regret that the league has heard of the sudden tragic death of Mick Beaumont at the age of 38.

Mick who played very successfully for the Raven darts team leaves a wife and young family and the league would like to offer its deepest sympathies to both this family and friends.
