NEW Alliance gave a competant performance to beat Gas Social in Friday's Greenall and Inn Partnership Darts League matches.

Archie Goodier, 15 and Alan Bate, 16, did well for Alliance but their top throwers were Joe Wood, who hit a 14 to win the match on the line, and Ron Cooke, who had a 15-dart drawn leg against Tony Murphy. B. Smith, 13 and L. Paget, 16, also did well for Gas.

Peter Harnick hit a 15-dart win for Hawthorne against Smithys while Garth MacLean hit a 15 for the losers with their only other winner, Keith Atkinson, notching up a 16-dart win.

Greenwood produced a workmanlike performance to beat British Rail without either side playing superbly.

The league Knock-Out Charity competition produced some excellent matches in the preliminary stages.

Mike Addison hit a 10-darter for the losers but Chris Barrow clinched the match for Tanner with a 13-dart last leg win over Peter Monks. Roger Mason, with 15, also did well for Tanner.

Butchers Arms were too good for Warrington Town with Simon Moriarty on form with an 11-darter. Ron Hughes, 15, was best for Town.
