MOURNERS paid a fond farewell for former Wire star Dave Cotton on Monday.

The ex-Warrington RLFC hooker died, aged 90, last week after illness and his funeral service was held at Edge Green Methodist Church in Golborne on Monday.

Dave, father of former England and British Lions Rugby Union international Fran Cotton, joined Warrington from St. Helens and won Championships medals with both clubs.

His Championship success with Wire came in 1947/48 when Bradford were beaten.

Warrington Wolves' Past Players' Association were represented at Dave's funeral by George Thornton, Ali Brindle, Ronnie Mather and Clarrie Owen.

The Wolves' club shop will remain open until around lunch-time on Christmas Eve for supporters wishing to purchase Wolves' merchandise. Club chiefs said they are working hard to make sure sizes of jerseys are available before Christmas for those who have ordered them.
