PLANS for 30 houses to be built in Weston look set to be approved despite concerns about nearby road safety.

The application is for Fairclough Homes and is for the Wychwood Park site in Weston outside Crewe.

Planning councillors will consider the application at a meeting today, Thursday January 4, and officers have recommended approval with various conditions.

Objections have been submitted to the borough council planners from Weston and Basford Parish Council as well as several residents of the area.

The residents are maintaining that road safety is being put at risk as the extra houses will create more traffic for the single track Chorlton Lane which adjoins the site.

Steve Williams lives on Chorlton Lane and said that the residents want to avoid any increase in traffic, whether it be construction or pedestrian.

"I am not against the housing but the use of Chorlton Lane, as it is a single track lane which is used by a lot of agricultural vehicles," he said.

"There was a suggestion that they would not use the lane for access but nothing has materialised and the traffic on the lane is still increasing.

"Chorlton Lane is very narrow with numerous bends and has limited traffic and we need to ensure there is no increase in any traffic along it," he added.

The parish council also objected, saying: "We do not feel the buildings are particularly pleasing nor do they enhance the area, this seems to be the local opinion."

Fairclough already has outline approval for the site and if this application is approved then building should be able to begin.
