CLLR Dawn Threadgold implicates the Tories are dividing our community by "setting one area off against another". Well, let's consider the facts.

Labour's new cabinet system is a two tier system; dividing our 56 borough councillors into 8 cabinet members with a vote on council policy and 48 non-cabinet members without a vote.

Our friends live in Haslington, Cllr Dawn Threadgold's Ward. Their vote entitles them to vote for a cabinet member with the power to determine Council policy, not just for Haslington but for the whole borough of Crewe & Nantwich. I get to vote in Wistaston Green where there will be no cabinet representative.

My vote will entitle me to vote for borough councillors who will have no vote on the decision-making process that will determine council policy in Wistaston Green, or anywhere else in the borough.

Now, in national politics every MP has a voice in Parliament, a vested interest in the well being of their constituents, and most important of all, a vote on planned legislation.

Therefore, whether one's MP is Gwyneth Dunwoody or Tony Blair is irrelevant; as the whole electorate is equally represented via the rights of their respective MP.

Sadly, the fairness of national democracy will not be reflected locally, once Labour's new Cabinet system is introduced next May.

Voters in Haslington will have a say in determining council policy, whilst voters in Wistaston Green have not got a say under the new cabinet system.

A minority of wards will elect councillors who are cabinet members. Therefore, Labour's new cabinet system for Crewe & Nantwich will divide the electorate into the minority of 'haves' and the majority of 'have nots'.
