ALSAGER keeper Rob Powner pulled off a string of outstanding saves on Saturday in a top class display for his new club.

Powner joined Alsager six weeks ago from Knypersley Vics, and helped his side earn a home point on Saturday against Warrington.

The league clash ended 0-0, leaving Alsager in 13th place in the table, just behind mid-table Warrington.

The first 15 minutes were dominated by both midfields, and the match became increasingly scrappy.

The first real chance of the game fell to Warrington six minutes from half-time, when a shot by centre forward Heverin from 18 yards produced a fine save from Powner.

Warrington went close again a minute before the break, Heverin breaking clear only to be foiled once again by Powner.

Alsager had a chance to take the lead when they won a free kick 25 yards out two minutes into the second half.

Kenny Lawton hit a goalbound low, hard shot which was well saved by Warrington keeper McCormack.

Powner kept Alsager in the game with another fine save from glancing header by Horner on 70 minutes.

And he produced the save of the game two minutes from the end of the match when he dived full length to keep out an effort from Holden.

Alsager are at home to Baddeley Green tomorrow in the Staffs Vase.
