THE olde worlde charm of Warrington's Victorian baths will feature in a blockbusting drama series on BBC2.

Entitled In a Land of Plenty, the saga tells the tale of a family from the end of the war to the early 1990s in a 10-part series.

And Warrington's baths was picked from pools across the country for its sparkling combination of light, period detail and charm.

The series hit screens on Wednesday, beginning with the family in the 1950s, and the scenes filmed in Warrington show the cast in the 1960s.

Adapted from Tim Pears' best-seller, the series follows an ambitious industrialist, Charles Freeman and his family and their changing fortunes at the end of the Second World War.

The couple have three sons and a daughter and the Warrington scene reveals how the main protagonist, Charles' son, James, realises his feelings for Laura, one of the servant's daughters.

Ultimately, the teenage couple do get together and the scene aims to spark memories in the viewer of the days they spent learning to swim.

Paul Yarwood, manager at the baths, said: "It certainly puts us on the map. The Baths were picked for their olde worlde charm. We provided the lifeguards and just let them get on with it. The staff had an excellent time helping them put the film together, and we will definitely all be watching the series."
