POLICE have named a woman whose body was found in the remains of a burnt-out car.

Evelyn Capper, aged 55, was found dead by firefighters tackling a car blaze near Congleton.

Mrs Capper was married, and came from Hillary Avenue, Kidsgrove.

Firefighters were called out just after 11am on November 15 to deal with a car fire on a track leading to Somerford Chapel off the A54 Holmes Chapel Road.

Initially the crew believed the car had been stolen and abandoned, but while dousing the flames found a body in the front of the vehicle.

Police were unable to release Mrs Capper's name until a series of forensic tests had been carried out to confirm her identity.

A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death to be fire.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious, and are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

An inquest has been opened for identification purposes only.
