A PLUCKY bus driver chased a thief, who butted him and stole cash from his bus, and managed to retrieve his takings.

The 28-year-old driver was taking the 115 Penketh circular route at 2.15pm on Monday when he was attacked by the man.

As he pulled up at the Warrington Road bus stop, adjacent to Kwik Save, his attacker stood waiting by the door then butted him and stole his cash bag.

Stunned, the driver jumped from behind the wheel and chased him round the Crown and Cushion pub and down Warrington Road, where the thief dumped the cash bag and ran off.

The driver was left with bruising to his head but didn't sustain any serious injury during the attack.

The offender boarded the bus at Warrington bus station and is described as white, aged around 18 and 5ft 7ins tall.

He was wearing a black Adidas track suit and white trainers and had his track suit bottoms tucked in his socks, and a back-to-front, dark-coloured baseball cap.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the youth run away or who can identify the offender can call Det Con Lesley Mills on 01244 613833.
