WARRINGTON Athletics Club's cross country runners had a successful day at the Cheshire Cross Country Championships at Hartford on Sunday.

In the 4,500m combined junior women and under 17 girls race Katie Brennan was first with Jenny Smith third, Vanessa Hewitt, fourth and Claire Irons, fifth. With under 17 Ellen Patrick finishing fourth and Kim Roach, fifth, the team easily took the gold medal.

The under 11s girls 2,200 metre race saw the club sweep all before them. Heather Timmins, gold, Sarah Oldfield, silver, Heather Williams, fourth, Hannah Tart, sixth and Hayley Derbyshire, 11th, secured the team gold.

Graham Ratcliffe finished 13th overall and third over 45 veteran in the 10,600m senior men's race.

David Cliffe led the 2,200m under 11 boys race almost from the start. Matthew Jackson, third and Michael Williams, 11th, steered the team to a silver medal.

The under 13 girls took silver over 3,000m with Lauren Stephens, third, Heather Roberts, fourth, Karina Royden, ninth, Kay Appleton 18th and Feay Lawless, 21st.

The under 15 girls race was over 3,800m. Warrington's Karrie Hewitt, gold and Anna Bishop, silver, dominated. Sarah Vandewalle, 13th, Susan Chiverton, 17th and Rachel Brooks, 19th, completed the team to take second place.

Stephen Humphries took fourth, Sean Myers eighth and Andrew Rogerson 11th to clinch the under 13 boys bronze team award.

Aimee Bartley had an excellent 7,500m senior women's race finishing eighth.
