Burscough...5
Warrington Town...1
A three goal blitz inside eight minutes by Burscough midway through the second half killed off Warrington's hopes in the second round of the Liverpool Senior Cup on Tuesday.
Following a defiant first half performance by Town, resulting in them holding the UniBond Premier Division side goalless at the interval, there was little indication that they would later fall to their heaviest defeat since August 1999.
A rare act of misjudgement by 'keeper Neil McCormack led to Burscough turning the game in their favour.
He raced off his line after 62 minutes in an ultimately futile attempt to punch clear a flighted cross leaving his net open for a simple header.
Andy Moore blazed a shot over the bar from three yards.
Burscough, lying three divisions higher than Town, added a second goal following a long-range drive by Andy McMullen, with Mark Wilde slotting in a third.
Wilde completed a hat-trick, after racing clear of an increasingly tiring Town rearguard.
Moore then steered in a clever goal to bring some joy.
Substitute Brian Hatton fired in a fifth for Burscough with the final kick.
Warrington have yet to win a Liverpool Cup tie in five years.
Town face bottom club Oldham Town at home on Saturday.
