THE 2000/2001 League Season proved almost as successful as the previous one for the Vikings' Academy side.

They finished top of the league with a record of 14 wins, one draw and just three losses from 18 games, with 574 points for and just 279 against.

In the play-offs the Vikings had a bye followed by a 43-42 win over Leigh in a quite remarkable game at the Auto Quest Stadium.

After a storming start the Vikings were pegged back by a very good Leigh side and at full time the score was 36-36.

A Mike Briggs try, goaled by Jamie Wenrow, put the Vikings in the lead and a Wenrow drop goal gave the home side a seven-point advantage.

Leigh scored a converted try on the final whistle giving the Vikings a thrilling victory, much to the delight of the large home crowd that had turned up to watch the game.

The final was an anti-climax when the Vikings went down to Leigh 13-19 in front of a crowd of around 1200.

The board this week praised the team on behalf of themselves and supporters for its consistently high standard of attacking rugby and wished all the players the best of luck for the future.

The team would also like to thank all the fans who turned up to offer their support throughout the season.
