ONE of the most heart-warming stories of the Vikings' 2000-2001 season was created by one of their most avid fans, 13-year-old Stephen Henshaw.
The club invited Stephen to the Grand Final as a VIP guest after they heard how he had cycled all the way to Leigh to watch his team in the semi-finals against the Centurions because his parents couldn't take him.
Stephen told his mum that he was going to the Halton Show, but then jumped on his push-bike and pedalled an astonishing 27 miles to Hilton Park!
As a further reward for his support, the Vikings players collected money for the plucky teenager and gathered together some memorabilia from the day for him, including Stephen Holgate's boots.
After the match Stephen said: "I'm so glad that they won. It was the best day of my life."
