Widnes St Maries 23 Pilkington Recs 6

WIDNES went behind early on but a penalty from Premier Security M.O.M Mark Keenan and a try from captain Tony Hannon, after great work from Gary McKeown, put them in the lead.

After converting the try, Keenan missed two penalties but the Maries went further ahead when Chris Fenlon and Anthony Hollins put through Paul Kirwin.

The former Vikings player, now fully fit, had a big influence on the game and assisted Carl Clark and Kev Birmingham to put in Andy Friar.

Keenan was unlucky to see his conversion effort rebound off both posts making the score at the break 16-6.

Tony Kirwin was put in by Peter Forrest and Paul Whitley and continued his rich scoring form. A Keenan conversion and a Mark Birmingham drop goal completed the scoring.

SAINTS STUNNED BY RHINOS

Cadishead Rhinos 22 Widnes St Maries A 10

PAUL ARGENT opened the scoring for the previously unbeaten Saints with a long-range penalty.

But the Rhinos full back went the length of the field to score after a move by Ronnie Wharton and Eddie Connor almost put in captain Simon Prendergast.

Ste Ainsworth and Bren Coombes put through Ian Crompton, only for him to be turned over on his back, and the Rhinos scored three times just before half time.

Premier Security M.O.M Connor was outstanding for Maries in the second half and put on the first points with a clever chip that he caught and and went on to score. Connor then put through Tex Mercer and Jay Brown for Crompton to score.

On Saturday the Premiership team are away to Portico Panthers and the Division Six team are at home to Irlam Hornets.
