Maghull FC 0 Helsby FC 1
HELSBY stretched their unbeaten run to 10 games with a superb 1-0 victory at Maghull.
Helsby made two changes to their starting line-up, with Chris Billington and Kevin Patterson returning to midfield.
The Villagers started brightly, with in-form strikers Gary Tyrrell and Lee Hunt causing Maghull problems with their pace and movement and the home side were unable to get into the game as Patterson, Craig Dewhurst and Geoff Tan dominated possession in the middle of the park.
Helsby went ahead after 15 minutes when Billington put in a pinpoint cross, which Lee Hunt met with a full-blooded header to send the ball into the top corner.
Wes Cannon was in inspirational form but Helsby were unable to capitalise on their territorial advantage.
The second period was more even, but Maghull could get little change out of Dave Nethercott, Peter Crane and Bernard Cannon in the Helsby defence.
Helsby's keeper Dave Green was beaten in a one-on-one, but Billington got back to clear off the line. Helsby M.O.M was Lee Hunt.
Helsby remain in cup action this coming Saturday with a first round Cheshire Cup tie at home to Tintwistle Villa.
