AJAX became division two champions with a win over Queens Park in the Halton Aventis Cricket League.

Anth Withers got Ajax off to the best possible start, hitting eight off three balls, but was run out for nine and Beddingfield was bowled by Reynolds for two.

Paul Withers was bowled by Mather for nought but Bri Topping steadied the ship and helped Googy Withers to a magnificent 50 before he was gone for six, bowled by Ikin.

Ajax needed two off two balls to earn a bonus point and young Dave Evans secured them when he square cut Ikin. Skipper Googy Withers finished on 53 no.

Ajax now had to stop a strong Queens Park batting side and struck early through Paul Withers, who took the wicket of Evans for nought.

Paul Withers finished with figures of 3-0-6-1 and Googy Withers capped an inspirational skippers performance with figures of 3-0-6-3.

Queens Park had no answer to Ajax's bowling and were all out for 45 leaving the latter as league champions, but spare a thought for Parklands who had led the league all season only to be beaten by one point.

M.O.M. was Googy Withers and wicket keeper of the year, Bri Topping, was brilliant in the very dark conditions.

Ajax could be the dark horses next season in the First Division.
