GIVE a little for those who gave everything.

That's the poignant message from Cheshire firefighters this week as they joined forces with colleagues throughout Britain to raise funds for families of the 300 firefighters killed in the New York terrorist attack.

Sub Officer Neil Brooks, said: "All the money raised will be put into a fund and distributed between the women and children who have become widows and orphans as a result of the tragedy.

"The money will hopefully go on to be used so that the children may be able to study at university.

"As firefighters, we are right behind any initiative that would help grieving families."

Firefighters raised £300 in a half time bucket collection at the Everton Reserves match at the Auto Quest Stadium on Monday night.

Official collection tins have a special security sticker attached to them.

Donations can be dropped off at Widnes or Runcorn fire stations, Halifax HSBC, NatWest or Yorkshire Banks.

Runcorn firefighters are willing to take part in any local fundraising initiatives. They are appealing to event organisers to phone them on 01928-572811.
