SCOTTISH POWER'S application for a huge gas plant on Holford Brinefield has again met with opposition.
Congleton Borough Council's planning committee has again called for the plans to be refused after they were resubmitted because of fresh evidence relating to the national need of the plant, emissions and classification of the proposed site.
Scottish Power proposes to store hundreds of thousands of tonnes of natural gas in underground salt caverns, which can be filled and emptied at high speeds.
This allows gas to be pumped into the national pipeline when demand is high and increased gas supply is necessary.
However Congleton Borough Council, which originally recommended the plans for refusal in July, has again sent submissions to the county council suggesting the development should be rejected after receiving objections from Byley Parish Council and local action group, Residents Against the Plant.
