THE BOYS and girls in blue will be raising money for Winsford's Hebden Green Special School on Sunday.

The Congleton and Vale Royal police division are to hold their annual Plodathon' with officers, support staff and families following a 70-mile relay route around the area.

Starting at Congleton Police Station at 7.30am, participants will visit every police station in the division, some will be running while others will be walking and cycling.

Last year the event raised £3,000 for Hebden Green, much to the school's delight.

"We were absolutely thrilled by the support which the event provided," said Peter Gaskell, chairman of governors at Hebden Green. The money provided a great lift for the school and enabled us to buy essential equipment for our young people."

The Divisional Police Community Involvement Fund will also benefit, this organisation offers financial support to good causes in Congleton and Vale Royal.

Supt Chris Richards, divisional commander, said: "I'm really pleased with the way that this event has developed and encouraged by the enthusiasm of everyone involved.

"All are welcome to participate in what will be a fun day for everyone concerned."
