FUND-RAISING will be the aim of the day for a Northwich vicar who is planning a sit in at her church this Saturday.

But Rev Lesley Eden of Whitegate St Mary's Church won't have time to put her feet up, as she is launching the church's restoration appeal with a specially organised prayer gift day.

The vicar, who joined the church in April, will be sitting in the church between 8.30am and 6pm to launch the appeal and receive donations.

She will give prayers and readings throughout the day, with members of the congregation also able to take part.

Rev Eden said: "I'm looking forward to meeting more of our parishioners and raising vital funds for the restoration of the church."

Church officials hope to raise a total of £30,000 required for renovation work, with most of the money needed for the repair of the tower, after it was found that there was damage to the metal supports.

Church representative Shirley Norville said: "With fund-raising and some grant aid we are hoping to start renovation work next year.

"It's a chance for people to meet the vicar and say hello, and also to bring gifts and help with our fund-raising."

There will also be a sponsored hymn sing in the church from 7pm to 8pm on Saturday, when anyone from the area is welcome to attend.

The church is currently in the process of formulating plans for further fund-raising ideas and would be grateful for as many people as possible to get involved.
