WOODFORD Lodge headteacher Steve Meeks has paid tribute to his staff and students at a celebration of a year of success for the school.

At the school's annual presentation evening last Thursday Mr Meeks highlighted the reasons for celebration over the previous 12 months.

A particular success is the start of a house system where class groups are encouraged to compete for the most merits.

The most successful house this year was Arley, which collected an impressive 15,350 merits and as a reward picked up a new trophy, which has been introduced by school governor Betty deWitt.

Woodford Lodge also had some excellent A-level and GCSE results with some impressive individual performances during the summer.

Mr Meeks said: "From the celebration I am sure you see reflected in all the achievements and successes a school in good heart, building on solid foundations, approved and praised by many at the beginning of the new century, moving enthusiastically into the future."

Simon Yates, Chief Executive of the Leighton Hospital NHS Trust was guest speaker for the evening and he also presented prizes.
