Olderhsaw 14 Northwich 17

South Lancs/Cheshire One

NORTHWICH got off the mark for the season despite their first two touches being kick-offs at Oldershaw on Saturday.

The home side scored straight from the start to go into the lead and give Northwich a nightmare opening.

However, they only conceded one further penalty before the break and the backs turned on the style to clinch their first win of the season in the second half.

Huw Jones and Dominic Shaw scored well-executed tries, both converted by Steve Campbell, who added a penalty to make it 17-8.

However, an uninspired forward performance cost Northwich ground as they conceded two penalties, before Oldershaw missed an easy kick to bring the scores level towards the end.

Dave Briggs was the pick of the forwards and Jones was outstanding in the three-quarters.

Northwich 2nds lost 18-12 at Blackburn.

This Saturday, Northwich 1sts and 3rds are at home to Ormskirk in the league, 2nds away.

NORTHWICH Colts came away from Blackburn with an excellent 17-12 victory on Sunday.

Andy Joseph, Chris Dale and Ben Palmer, who added a conversion, were the try scorers.

However, Dale's sin-binning later in the game allowed Blackburn to come back into the game with two late tries.
