Vics Reserves 2 Guiseley 1

Lancashire League

VICS Reserves won their third home Lancashire League game of the season at the Drill Field on Saturday, with another convincing performance.

Guiseley, who were second in the league going into this game, had no answer to Vics' flowing football, which took shape right from the start.

But it took a penalty to break the deadlock after 35 minutes as Gavin Smith was brought down in the box and Asa Beard stepped up to convert.

Two minutes later, Vics gave themselves a two-goal half-time cushion when Moorhead dribbled round Bob Harris to score.

Early in the second half, Northwich had to withstand a period of pressure, but Danny Frost was outstanding at the back to keep the scoreline blank.

However, Guiseley could easily have been level when they were awarded two penalties in the space of five minutes midway through the second period.

Midfielder Burns missed the first, saved by Hulse, but he was brave enough to step forward again in the 70th minute to send the Vics goalkeeper the wrong way.

However, Vics held on for the win, their good team performance helped by fine debuts from 17-year-old youth team player Richard Mason and trialist Alan Brown form Nantwich Town.

Vics: Hulse, Brown, Frost, Mason, Dagher, Gavin, Elliott, Beard, Smith, Moorhead. Subs used: Greensill, Washburn.
