REGARDING the story of the Red Cross building.

The Widnes Red Cross and other community groups were told to leave in December 1999.

The building wouldn't be in that state if people had come forward to help when the Red Cross needed to keep it going.

It was closed because of the roof, now it's been left so long it will need more than that.

That building has been there for well over 60 years and nearly everyone in Widnes has had some kind of help from the local Red Cross or knows of someone who has, be it a plaster, bandage, wheelchair, commode, etc.

What you must all remember is the Widnes Red Cross members are just everyday people with homes and families of their own.

They are all volunteers who give up their free time to go out in the community to provide a service to the community of Widnes.

Well done to all the members of the Widnes Red Cross and keep up the good work.
