CHARITY footballers are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds to help people suffering from severe asthma.

A team from Hans Lingl in Congleton is taking on the Signal Sounders X1 at Congleton Town's ground on October 7.

The winners will lift a trophy in memory of Tom Johnson, from Gillow Heath, who died in his 40s from an asthma-related disease.

Mr Johnson worked at Hans Lingl, and the match is being organised by Michael Jackson, Kevin Woods, Peter Cole and Sarah Woodcock, who all work for the company.

The 90-minute game starts at 2pm, following a ladies five a side game, which kicks off at 1.20pm.

Money raised on the day will be used to buy nebulisers for medical centres in Congleton and Biddulph.

Programmes are available at the centres, which allow people entry to the Booth Street ground.

They can also buy programmes on the gate.
