ALSAGER Town squandered a host of chances on Saturday as leaders Formby fought back to earn a point.

Alsager should have had their home clash with the joint leaders wrapped up by half-time.

However they failed to take their chances, and the visitors equalised for the second time with 23 minutes left to earn a 2-2 draw.

Alsager took the lead on 14 minutes when they won a corner, Brown chipping the ball to the near post.

Brotherton flicked it on for Bayley to score from close range.

They should have increased their lead a minute later, but Brotherton was unable to get the touch needed to knock the ball in.

Alsager missed another good chance on 22 minutes when Palin shot narrowly wide.

Formby drew level on 35 minutes when Dick brought Bourne down in the box, and Wilson scored from the penalty spot.

Alsager regained the lead a minute before the break when Lawton powered in a tremendous free kick from 35 yards.

Keeper King fumbled the ball, and it squeezed under him into the net.

Palin again shot wide five minutes into the second half, and Alsager continued to play some good football.

However they conceded a needless free kick on 67 minutes, which led to Formby's second equaliser.

Spelman crossed to the far post, where Guy volleyed home from 10 yards.

Alsager travel to Blackpool Mechanics tomorrow. Supporters can travel free to away matches by contacting Sam Brotherton on 01782-810745.
