KNYPERSLEY Vics went out of their second cup competition on Saturday in as many weeks after going down in extra time.

The Vics were tied at 1-1 at home with Rainworth Miners Welfare at the end of 90 minutes.

The visitors scored twice in extra-time to run out 3-1 winners in the FA Vase second qualifying round tie.

For the cup clash Knypersley had replaced injured keeper Terry Dalloway by signing Kevin Taylor from Congleton Town, along with local player Liam Hancock.

Knypersley should have taken the lead in the opening minutes, Lee Horton seeing a shot well saved and Wayne Atkinson firing straight at the keeper.

They continued to press forward, and took the lead on five minutes when a blunder by the Rainworth keeper and a defender allowed Atkinson in to score.

Knypersley were hit by another injury five minutes later when Nicky Bedson was stretchered off with a knee injury.

Rainworth drew level on 19 minutes thanks in large part to a mistake by Vics' keeper Taylor.

A Knypersley defender played the ball back to Taylor to clear, but he picked it up and the referee awarded a direct free kick a matter of yards from goal.

The Vics packed the goal, but Sharman for Rainworth slammed the ball into the top corner to make it 1-1.

Dave Hancock fired at the keeper, he and Craig Brown saw shots blocked in front of goal, and Steve Elks fired wide on the stroke of half-time.

Taylor saved well to deny Clarke in the second half and later Cornell, and Knypersley could have won the game in the dying minutes when Horton saw his shot saved.

Substitute Williams put the visitors ahead nine minutes into the first period of extra time.

He hit a second five minutes into the second period by lobbing the ball over Taylor as the keeper raced off his line. Knypersley play Studley at home tomorrow.
