THE Government's decision on the new stadium development has been delayed - and no-one can predict when it will be made.

As reported in the Guardian in August, fans and the council had received letters saying the planning inspector's report from the public inquiry was due to be passed to the Planning Inspectorate during the week of September 10 and would then be forwarded to the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and Regions for a final decision. This was expected by the end of September.

But according to new information received from the Government's north west office, the inspector's report and the related file have not arrived and it is understood that it could be at least another two weeks until they arrive. It stresses that officers are aware of the importance of an early decision.

And Lord Hoyle, the Wolves' chairman, says he is also in the dark as to when the decision will be made.

"We were always told it would be September, but we realise now that that is not going to happen," he said.

"I have no inside knowledge but I think it would be safe to say we may not hear until November or even December.

"We can cope with delays but it is obvious that from the club's point of view, the earlier the decision comes the better."
