REGARDING your Haslington appeal for comments, I walked around on a recent visit and can agree that attention to road safety in the busier central area is extremely poor.
This includes lack of pavements on the side roads and even part of the main road, neglected road surfaces and no controlled crossing of the main road.
Presumably, children at the school further along have the advantage of a crossing supervisor when they are arriving and departing but what I saw were people having just descended from a bus (near the chemists/bakery/off licence area) and trying to cross over amidst quite heavy traffic - a hazardous undertaking requiring some speed - or a long wait!
By the way, that stone! The mind boggles as to its meaningfulness in relation to Haslington in the millennium.
