WOMEN in Warrington who are experiencing menopausal symptoms may be interested in helping with research being carried out by Lorraine Turner, a research sister at South Manchester University Hospital.

She is recruiting up to 100 women in the Manchester, Stockport and Warrington areas to take part in a study related to the use of plant oestrogens in treating menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and osteoporosis.

The study will determine whether flaxseed as a dietary supplement will have beneficial effects. Women interested will be given food supplements such as bread rolls, scones and flapjacks, consuming the equivalent of 40 grams of flaxseed per day.

The reasoning behind the study is related to the fact that Asian women, who consumed large amounts of plant oestrogen, rarely suffer the common symptoms of women in the west.

Lorraine hopes to hear from women who experience hot flushes and/or night sweats at least five times in 24 hours. She can be contacted on 0161 291 3868.
