WESTON ended their League season on Saturday needing a 25 point win to overcome title leaders Rode Park and snatch the honours.

Batting first on a damp wicket, Weston built their innings around the dependable Andy Marson (62no).

With contributions from P Tibbetts (24) and Mike Chester (22) the home side made a sporting declaration at 137 for 9 dec, knowing only a win was good enough on the day.

Weston tried all their top bowling line-up in their efforts to force a win. Marson (2 for 8), Lomas (1 for 21) and Lello (1 for 26) all supported a great spell of left arm spin from P Newnes (4 for 32). Despite managing to face 47 overs, Hanford ended the day 121 for 8, with professional Mark Bengry holding the resistance together with 32 not out.

The resulting draw meant Weston just failed to pip their rivals to the title on a day charged with emotion, in front of an appreciative crowd.

Weston's League season sees them as runners up to Rode Park in one of the closest races to the title in many years.

The 2nd XI have also enjoyed one of their best seasons in the club history ending the campaign with a comprehensive 135 run win over Hanford and also securing runners-up position in the Junior A League.

On Sunday, Weston 1st XI continued their prolific Cup run with an 8 wicket win over Silverdale in the League Cup semi-final.

Having already secured the Cheshire Shield two weeks previously, Weston have set up a fitting finale to the season by reaching the League Cup Final away to this years' Champions Rode Park on Sunday, September 30, commencing at 12noon.

The club is already making plans for next year's campaign and is inviting all interested players, supporters and friends to have a look at their web site on www.westoncc.co.uk for further information and details of the season gone and approaching.
