LORD Hoyle has been in discussions with the Prime Minister this week over the growing crisis sparked by the American terrorist attacks.

The former Warrington North MP, who moved to the House of Lords four years ago, is part of a Parliamentary committee which is made up of members of the Commons as well as Lord Hoyle as a representative of the Lords.

The group was at Number 10 on Tuesday to advise Tony Blair.

Lord Hoyle said: "There was a special meeting to discuss the current situation and the Prime Minister was seeking opinions on whether Parliament should be recalled.

"My view is that it should. Members need to be updated.

"The Government has my full support, but it is quite right that we have not rushed in to any action that could make things worse. We also have to consider humanitarian aid to Afghanistan if need be. The people there are already suffering enough. The action needs to be carefully planned.

"I have also said that as well as removing terrorists, we should look at the problems creating terrorism, not only in the Middle East, but also the Irish problem. Perhaps recent events will make Americans think twice about supporting the Real IRA."
